T' Challa with sister Zuri inspecting the Black Panther suits. From YouTube/Marvel Entertainment - Fair Use

The freshest TV Spot for Marvel Studio's Black Panther features some royal moments from the king of the secretive nation of Wakanda, T' Challa (Chadwick Boseman) just in time for the holidays.

After the death of his father T' Chaka and assuming the throne , T'Challa meets with his sister Zuri (Letitia Wright) to talk about the panther suit and he also gets some encouraging words about destiny from his mother Ramonda (Angela Bassett).

It is clear that Erik Killmonger (Michael B. Jordan) is threatening to grab power from T' Challa.  From previous trailers dropped by Marvel Studios in the past weeks, Ulysses Klaw (Andy Serkis) will be Killmonger's partner in overthrowing the reigning monarch.  We remember Klaw from Avengers: Age of Ultron as the illicit weapons dealer who sells Vibranium to Ultron.   This was a more realistic portrayal of the Klaw character since in the comics he is an enhanced human due to the radiation and sonic characteristics of Vibranium which gave him the ability to control sound and fire sonic blasts.

Vibranium, the strongest, rarest and most expensive metal in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) , is only found in Wakanda.  In the comics, the Vibranium mountain fell as a meteorite thousands of years ago.  The Wakandans discovered its rather "different" qualities and sold it sparingly.  However, unknown to other nations they built a very technological society out of the wealth generated by the valuable ore and the wise governance of their King.  Captain America's shield is made of Vibranium and was first seen in Captain America: The First Avenger.  Since Klaw is focused on profit, he may be helping Killmonger in exchange for some vibranium.

The power struggle is not the only situation that is menacing the throne but also, from the trailer, M' Baku (Winston Duke) and his followers might shake the peace and security of the nation.  It still is unknown if director Ryan Coogler made M' Baku as Killmonger's ace up his sleeve or just another power player to the Wakandan throne.  To make matters harder for T' Challa is that Everett Ross (Martin Freeman), the man who hunted down the Winter Soldier, is poking around Wakanda as seen on the first full trailer shown last October.

In Wakanda, the office of king is held by the Black Panther and in the comic that means whoever is king has not only assumed the office but also the role of leader and protector of the people.  They too need to be enhanced by the powers that the Vibranium meteorite has given the land through his costume and the strength-giving herbs that the Black Panther needs to ingest.  To be King of Wakanda is serious stuff and so far T' Challa has shown grace, wisdom and honor, wonderfully played by Boseman.

T' Challa said it best in the mid-credit scene of Captain America: Civil War, "Let them try."

Black Panther will be released in theatres February 16, 2018.
